Understand

Start with the specific damage: Shor's algorithm removes the security of RSA, Diffie–Hellman and the elliptic-curve schemes entirely, and no key size restores it.
Traffic captured today can be decrypted years later once the attack becomes practical, which is why key establishment moves ahead of signatures in any sensible order of work.
NIST published FIPS 203, 204 and 205 in August 2024, and those three documents define the algorithms every migration plan is measured against.

Ticking a step is your own record and nothing more. It is held in your browser under a single local-storage key, it is never sent to us, we do not count it, and clearing your site data clears it. Nothing ticks itself: we do not mark a step complete when you open the page, because visiting a page is not the same as having understood it, and progress is not ours to claim on your behalf.
